What means Standard?  by Asiataal   2. Oct 2011   Japanese

I noticed that for words "Standard" is written under the Kanji, and the writing in Hiragana and Katakana.
I also noticed that sometimes a word has received "standard" for the three forms.
I am confused about this: if "standard" means the standard Japanese way of writing the word, then I would assume that standard can only be used for one form of writing.
Could anyone help/explain.

Add Notes  by Pingfa   21. Aug 2011   Chinese

I was just thinking, as I use the notes feature quite often now, it would be useful if I were able to see notes in Simple mode without clicking on Details. Would it be troublesome to implement this?
I like to use the notes feature to add other meanings or alternate characters, but sometimes I'll forget wether I added a note or not.

Love the premium membership!  by auroranightowl  Superman Site Supporter   26. Sept 2011   Swedish

Had to become a premium member again! It's official, I'm addicted to swedish-flashcards.com ;) Your site is excellent! I had my Swedish friend check it out for me to make sure the grammar was correct, and she was very impressed and told me she was going to use the site herself to brush up on her English. Keep up the great work!

Manipulation of audio recording  by Asiataal   6. Sept 2011   Japanese

Often I find the speach speed of the sentences too fast. Is there a possibility to slow it down?

For the same purpose: is it possible to load the audio part in a programme like F4? This programme allows manipulation of speach speed, furthermore, to stop at any moment (what may give some time for exercising the pronounciation of the word/words), repeat any part of an audio recording a.s.o.
These facilities are of great help to learn to pronounce correctly

Automated Looping  by JosefGinsberg   15. Sept 2011   French

Are there any plans to automate the software so that correct answers are automatically recognized and looped in accordance with correct or incorrect answers? It would be nice not to have to closely scan each answer to make sure the spelling is correct, or to have to decide how to loop it. It sort of disrupts one's focus.

Text categories and sound files  by bifftastic   10. Sept 2011   Thai

Hi, Some of the text categories have 'nothing found' when they are clicked. When will you be updating them?

Also, some of the sentences do not have sound files, they say 'sound coming soon' Can I ask, when is 'soon'?

Confusing to have non-standard kana listed  by wupeiyu   8. Sept 2010   Japanese

I still think that it is very confusing to have every word in both hiragana and katagana. Sometimes the correct kana version would be a mixture of the two, e.g. フランスジン or ドイツご。

When I use flashcards, I'd really prefer to visually memorize the correct version(s) only, and not see the non-standard version at all.

Otherwise, the site is great, especially the game.

How to know how to pronounce the O letter  by Bergamasque   27. Jul 2011   Russian

How do you know when to pronounce the letter "o" as "o" or "a" ?

Sometimes I see a bar under the "o" to help know which way to pronounce, but more often than not, there isn't a bar (and by the way, is the bar commonly used in Russian or is it only used to help foreign Russian learners ?)

randomizing order  by ewcarson   13. Apr 2007   Chinese

I have a list of words to study, but they always appear in the same order. Is there a way to randomize the order in which they appear?

Also, there used to be a feature that would allow the user to rank how familiar they were with a word. Is that feature gone for good?

J  by JLT   13. Aug 2010   Chinese

I'm totally new to learning traditional Chinese. Mainly my goal is to learn to read it. I've been learning at roughly the pace of 5-10 words a day for a couple months, and am curious if anybody else is in the same boat as me. I've learned 375 words thus far not counting obvious things such as numbers. Is this a good pace or should I be learning more or less? I feel like I have come a long way even in this short span, but on the other hand I still feel totally clueless at interpreting even the most basic phrases and sentences.

Korean Sites  by allibrownie   7. Mar 2010   Korean

안녕하세요. ^^ I'm Allison. I'm a 13 year old girl that is very interested in the Korean language and I'm forced to teach myself. I don't even know a Korean person outside of the computer. I've asked my online Korean friends to teach me but they don't have the time to. :/ My family is kind of poor so I can't buy any books and stuff so the internet is my only option. I need some sites that will help me learn Korean and some study tips that can help me learn the language. Thank you for your answers in advance. ^^

Help with monter!  by NINAV   28. Feb 2011   French

Today's message "Il a monte les escaliers au courant" - he ran up the stairs, has confused me. I learned that monter is one of the verbs that takes etre as the auxilliary. If you use avoir it changes the meaning of the main verb, eg "il est monte les escaliers" = he went up the stairs, but "Il a monte les escaliers" = he brought up the stairs or he took up the stairs?
Can someone clarify this for me please?

Question.  by Nancy4366   14. Mar 2011   Korean

What's the difference between the
master list and active list ?

When I add a new word --- where is it added to? To my active word list?

When I add a new sentence ---- where does it go to?

If it is added to the "looping list" < the active list, how can I put it from there into one of my other lists?

Can I add words to the public topic lists? Those list are so short.

Help.
