why use subjunctive in ... by abbadagg 2. Mar 2011
In sentence "Me alegro tanto de que vinieras a visitarme" "vinieras" appears to be imperfect subjunctive; but in this sentence there is no doubt the action has taken place, why use subjunctive?

You would use the imperfect subjunctive because with Me alegro tanto is saying that I am very happy basicly so it's the emotion provoker + que + change of sub. But It's all in the past saying that i was very happy that you came to visit me. Also even though me alegro tanto is not a normal provoker when you use the imperfect subjunctive it does not always have to be in that set up because you can also you the conditional tense. | Forum Index |
