the meaning is the same but 教師 is more academical and used for professors in scientific or medical field. |

先生 is polite and should only be used when referring to another person. However when speaking about yourself, you must use 教師 or else it sounds rude. |

we can say 先生 to teacher or suppose if we are refering to someone's name in particular.For eg. a doctor's name, you can use the word 先生 right after the name. 高橋先生。for 教師 you can use as a teacher, master,educator,instructor. |
