Speaking Russian in exchange for English  by elabelle2290   7. Mar 2011   Russian

Hello! Currently I am studying Russian and English in school. Having been raised in America, I speak English fluently; however, I feel my Russian is not where it should be. I would be more than happy to exchange English lessons for Russian lessons over Skype with anyone interested!

Question about levels  by barrikid   12. Feb 2011   Swedish

Hi and thanks for this site!

I've got a question about the levels for words and sentences in your newsletter. I finished level B1 (according to the "European Reference Frame" last summer in evening class but due to my stressful job I cannot continue... Now, what level would you think I need? Basic? Intermediate? Advanced? I'm completely at a loss and would appreciate any help.

Thanks a lot!

Languages are to be spoken.  by neutrinox   13. Feb 2011   Russian

Hello, my name is Adam, from Lebanon. I've went through Rosetta stone levels 1,2 and 3 and have some words/sentences looping here but still can't really speak. I can make up some sentences if you give me enough time. I'm looking for someone to talk to on MSN Messenger to practice Russian speaking.

please move the answers  by Melindanford   4. Feb 2011   Swedish

Hello, I would think that putting the answers directly below the sentences is counterproductive. I love your site, your content, and most of your interesting methods - but to be honest there is less learning when the answer (på Engelska) can be seen by peripheral vision while considering the meaning of the sentence (på Svenska). Have never seen a "flashcard" where the answer is on the same side as the question. Otherwise, really beautiful site!

Today's sentence: use of imperfect verb  by mbrainerd  Superman Site Supporter   4. Feb 2011   Russian

"До встречи", - сказал он. "Я должен уходить."

Normally nuzhno and dolzhno take the perfective: nuzhno sdelat', dolzhen skazat', etc. If the action is required, it usually must be completed.

But here the imperfective softens (I must be going) and also distinguishes this use from other phrases: dolzhen uyti could mean 'I must retire'.

Hi everyone!

I signed in yesterday 01/02/2011 around 20:00 UK time and I read the Word of the day, Sentence and News. I logged in today and they are all the same. Do you know at what time of day is this changed, if so? My account is free.

Thanks,

Simple Conversations for children  by nikmik   20. Jan 2011   Portuguese

Hi we have enjoyed your site for years, thankyou.

I seem to recall you once had a list of conversations by theme, e.g. the dinner table, at the restaurant, etc.

If you did, I can't seem to find this category on the site.

If you didn't, can you redirect me?

Many thanks,

Mike

Displaying Stroke Order  by Chinese6823   18. Jan 2011   Chinese

I was able to view the writing guide for traditional and simplified stroke order for characters, but recently I haven't been able to view them. Does anyone know if there is a setting that I need to enable to have it show again?

The simplified stroke order 2 pop up window does work for me.

Thank you.

Infinitiv vs imperativ  by olgamyst   27. Jul 2010   Swedish

Hej! I would like to now what are the rules for infinitiv and imperativ. I know that I must use imperativ, when it is order and when there isn't subject, ex: Spring! Håll ej! and infinitiv after "att" and helpverbs. But why than swidish use "Hålla stilen!" and "Varför inte ställa en vas där också!". Tack på förhand.

Hangul and transcription  by Yazo   2. Jan 2011   Korean

Hi guys, and thanks for this amazing website! It is really helpful, 고마워!

Don't you think it would be better to remove/give the option to remove the english transcription of hangul? It is extremely easy to learn it, so we don't need the transcription, except of course for the alphabet.

(transcription is for example writing "gomao" near 고마워).

The problem is that the eye is used to english/latin alphabet, so it get harder to stay concentrate on the korean. It would be easyer if there was an option to remove it/hide it, or if it was simply deleted!
I understand we need it for language as chinese, but it take just a few hour to learn hangul, so...

And! It will maybe give to more people the will to suscribe for the audio :)

Have nice day, and happy new year!

This website is great, but it would be even better if it were possible to have english-to-italian instead of just italian-to-english. Is this in the works? Is it already possible and I'm not seeing how to do it? I've read through the help page and can't find anything on this. Thanks.

Thanks very much. Reading, writing, listening and my hour of speaking down at the library in Lund. Should have this cracked in no time.

very happy with dutch-flashcards  by Pastille  Superman Site Supporter   25. Oct 2010   Dutch

I stumbled across the dutch-flashcards site two weeks ago and decided that it was for me. I love the format. It is very easy to figure out the software and to get started. I opted for the premium membership immediately because the sound of words is so important to learn. The accents and voices of the speakers are perfect. I am even learning to make that guttural "g" sound without being embarrassed.:-)

Graphics Pad entry for Chinese characters  by kanji  Superman Site Supporter   27. Jan 2010   Chinese

I really like the handwriting input on this site, its great for looking words up and spotting similar characters.

Does anyone know what graphics tablets work well and if there are any word processors or dictionaries that support graphics tablet chinese character input.

I intend to buy a tablet as the mouse is hard to control well enough for character input.

ps it would be nice if the handwriting input characters where integrated with the rest of the site.

Thanks

how are verbs conjugated?  by pedromorais   5. Sept 2010   Russian

Privet!
While these flashcards are very effective in building up vocabulary, without teaching grammar they are just words and you can't really make sentences.

Why not flashcards with the conjugation of the verbs? the verbs are the most important part of a sentence, they show what you are doing!!

Or where can I find the best basic russian grammar online instead?

Hugs!
