how are verbs conjugated?  by pedromorais   5. Sept 2010

Privet!
While these flashcards are very effective in building up vocabulary, without teaching grammar they are just words and you can't really make sentences.

Why not flashcards with the conjugation of the verbs? the verbs are the most important part of a sentence, they show what you are doing!!

Or where can I find the best basic russian grammar online instead?

Hugs!

i noticed in sentences, that there aren't words for 'the' and 'is'. for example to say' the sky is blue' all you say in russian is' sky blue'.

what's up with that?!?!?!

Russia does not distinguish between definite and indefinite nouns (i.e. "the" vs."a"). For example, to say "the apple" and "an apple" the Russian in both cases would be яблоко. Whether a noun is definite or indefinite is understood by context. Also, in the present tense, the Russian verb for "to be" is not used. It is only used in the past and future tenses. I am not aware of any exceptions, but there could be.

@Pedromorais- you've got a point. this site is great for learning vocab, but there's no grammar component. Sadly, I don't really have an answer for your question (I'm not quite at the grammar part yet- I still need to learn some basic words first).
Have you tried russianpod101.com? I've heard their site is good, but I have no idea if it's good for grammar or not, since I haven't really used it much. If you're still looking for grammar, you should take a look and see if it's any good! Let me know what you find!
