If you wish to get a Chinese tattoo, but don't know much about Chinese characters, also be very careful about what you request from your tattoo artist. If they get too artistic with the characters, the words can become unreadable nonsense. Once you choose the characters you want, the best option is to bring your own copy of the characters in the size you want the tattoo to be. Any good artist should be able to make a transfer of your image and incorporate it into any other design elements you want. Good luck!
