Hello.  by Renchu   24. May 2007

This site seems really great. I've been feeling pressure to learn simplified characters instead of traditional because of available dictionaries and texts. I'm so easily swayed by the arguements on each side. After seeing this site though, I'm reminded of how aesthetically pleasing the traditional characters are and vow to stick with them regardless of those who claim them to be irrelevant. My aim to read a really old copy of 'Three Kingdoms' shall be realised!

All the historical texts are in traditional chinese and in Taiwan and Hong Kong they still stick to traditional characters. And from what we've heard there is a growing trend in China that people learn traditional characters again.
Traditional Chinese Script  by seowmc   29. Jul 2007

I have gathered from a creditable source that the Mainland Chinese Government is reintroducing Traditional Script in Primary school starting Primary 1 this year.
If you are with Simplified Chinese you have access to only about 50 years of recorded history. And if with traditional script you have access to a stretched historical that will date to as much as the original script became known.
Not to mention the beauty, aesthetics and the subtleties of the original script.

i learn traditional just because i want to stick with tradition. Simplified turns it into just a language, not a culture.

Not to mention the fact that a huge amount of meaning is lost in the transition from traditinal to simplfied. I can certainly understand the reasons for wanting to simplfy Chinese (am I the only one who takes five minutes to write 邊?), but I still find traditional to be much more rewarding. Plus I've never been to China and I used to live in Taiwan...so traditional it is!
