Can anyone recommend a good textbook for starting out at Spanish?

I will be taking a formal college class starting in one week and the book below is the one required for the course.

Hello. Check out the book Spanish verbs by Dorothy Richmond. It has some quizzes there and it is a very nice book. Check it out.

beginner's spanish (latin american) by ida warner is a very good book, i love it and found it in the library and have had it for almost 6 months now. it great

My wife and I have been using Dorothy Richmond's books as a supplement to our class. We think they're great. In addition to the book on verbs mentioned in another response, she also has one on pronouns and one on Vocabulary.

Try "1001 most useful Spanish words"...not as basic text but to see a variety of sentence structures. Each word has an example with an English translation of the sentence so you see a lot of word order and learn a lot of vocabulary beyond the 1001 words.
