The funeral
Annette: Oi Pete. Ouvi dizer que a sua avó morreu.
Annette: Hi Pete. I've heard your grandmother passed away.
Pete: Oi Annette. Sim, é verdade.
Pete: Hi Annette. Yes that's true.
Annette: Meus pêsames! Quando foi o enterro?
Annette: My condolences! When was the funeral?
Pete: Foi na segunda-feira.
Pete: It was on Monday.
Annette: Entendo. Odeio enterros, mas pelo menos você revê alguns parentes.
Annette: I see. I hate funerals, but at least you see some relatives again.
Pete: Sim, tinha muita gente lá. Eu nem conhecia muitos deles.
Pete: Yes, there were a lot of people. Many of them I didn't even know.
Annette: Como foi o panegírico?
Annette: How was the eulogy?
Pete: Você sabe, como sempre, mas teve um momento engraçado. De repente, no meio do panegírico, o celular de um cara começou a tocar o tema de "Missão Impossível". Foi tudo tão engraçado que eu quase dei gargalhadas.
Pete: You know the usual. There was a funny moment though. Suddenly, in the middle of the eulogy, someone's cell phone started ringing with the "Mission Impossible" theme. The whole thing was so funny that I almost laughed out loud.
Annette: Rá rá, engraçado. Ele deve ter ficado com vergonha!
Annette: Haha, funny that. He must have been embarrassed!
Pete: Sim, ele foi embora rapidamente e não voltou mais até onde eu sei.
Pete: Yeah, he quickly left and didn't come back as far as I know.
Annette: O marido da minha tia é um mestre de cerimônias fúnebres (orador fúnebre) e ele disse que isso acontece o tempo todo.
Annette: My auntie's husband is a funeral celebrant (funeral speaker) and he said this happens all the time.
Pete: Eu posso imaginar.
Pete: I can imagine.
Annette: Sim. Ele sempre me conta alguma história louca. Ele disse que um cara pediu para eles tocarem "Highway to Hell" do AC/DC em um enterro.
Annette: Yes. Every time he tells me some crazy story. He said once a guy requested that they play "Highway to Hell" from AC/DC at his funeral.
Pete: Rá rá. Isso se chama humor negro. Está bem, eu tenho que ir agora. Até mais!
Pete: Haha. That's called black humor. OK, I got to go now. See you!
Annette: Tchau!
Annette: Bye!
