Elisabetta: Ciao Martino. Com'è andata a scuola?
Elisabeth: Hi Martin. How was school?
Martino: Oh, è andata benissimo. La lezione di storia è stata molto interessante.
Martin: Oh, it was great. The history lesson was very interesting.
Elisabetta: Davvero? Cos'avete imparato?
Elisabeth: Really? What did you learn?
Martino: Abbiamo fatto il "Grande Incendio di Londra". Distrusse quattro quinti di Londra nel 1666.
Martin: We learned about the "Great Fire of London". It destroyed four fifths of London in 1666.
Elisabetta: Ma è terribile!
Elisabeth: That's terrible!
Martino: In realtà salvò molte più persone di quante ne uccise.
Martin: It actually saved more people's lives than it killed.
Elisabetta: Com'è possibile?
Elisabeth: How is that possible?
Martino: L'incendio uccise molti ratti che contribuivano a trasmettere la peste. Il numero di vittime della peste diminuì rapidamente dopo l'incendio.
Martin: The fire killed a lot of rats which helped to transmit the plague. Plague victims dropped rapidly after the fire.
Elisabetta: Che interessante. Impari molto a scuola!
Elisabeth: That's interesting. You learn a lot in school!
Martino: Già!
Martin: Yes, I do!
