Italian prepositions: an overview
A:
Oggi resto a letto. (Today I'll stay in bed.)
Prenderò il treno da Firenze. (I'll take the train from Florence.)
In:
Abito in Piazza Firenze. (I live in Piazza Firenze.) —> Piazza = Square.
Con:
L'ho sollevato con questa mano. (I've lifted him with this hand.)
Su:
Salgo su una montagna. (I climb a mountain.)
Prenderò il treno per Firenze. (I'll take the train to Florence.)
Italian prepositions: an overview
Prepositions are placed before a noun, a pronoun, an adverb or an infinitive verb to specify their function in the sentence. They are invariable.
In Italian there are two kinds of prepositions:
The prepositions which are nothing but prepositions in the sentence (Preposizioni proprie)
The prepositions which are not prepositions in the first place but adverbs, adjectives, participles, nouns, and verbal phrases which can be also used as prepositions (Preposizioni improprie)
Let's first have a look at the prepositions which are properly prepositions (preposizioni proprie)

Sto parlando di te. (I'm talking about you.)
A:
Oggi resto a letto. (Today I'll stay in bed.)
Vado a scuola. (I'm going to school.)
L'aereo atterra a Linate. (The plane lands at Linate.)
A statuto speciale. (Under special statues.)
Da:
Prenderò il treno da Firenze. (I'll take the train from Florence.)
Sono da Anna. (I'm at Anna's place.)
Passa da questa porta. (Come in through this door.)
Ascolto la sua musica da due anni. (I've been listening to his|her music for two years.)
Non l'ho più vista da allora. (I haven't seen her since then.)
Vorrei essere rispettato da tutti. (I wish I could be respected by everyone.)
In:
Abito in Piazza Firenze. (I live in Piazza Firenze.) —> Piazza = Square.
Anna va in campagna ogni fine settimana. (Anna goes to the countryside every weekend.)
Quest'anno non andrò in vacanza. (This year I'm not going on holiday.)
Anna andrà a Milano in treno. (Anna will go to Milan by train.)
Anna sale in macchina. (Anna gets into the car.)
Con:
L'ho sollevato con questa mano. (I've lifted him with this hand.)
Sono venuto con il treno. (I've travelled by train.)
Sono venuto con il treno delle 10.00. (I've travelled on the 10.00 train.)
Passa dalla porta. (Come in through the door.)
Con mia grande sorpresa. (To my great surprise.)
Su:
Salgo su una montagna. (I climb a mountain.)
Anna siede sempre su questo divano. (Anna always sits on this sofa.)
Ti racconto qualcosa su Anna. (I'll tell you something about Anna.)
Per:
Prenderò il treno per Firenze. (I'll take the train to Florence.)
Prenderò l'aereo per l'Inghilterra. (I'll take the plane for England.)
Passare per la finestra. (To pass through the window.)
Anna viaggia per il mondo. (Anna is traveling around the world.)
Tagliamo per i campi. (Let's cut across the fields.)
Fra / Tra:
Detto fra/tra noi. (Between you and me.)
L'ho trovato fra/tra i libri di Anna. (I' found it among Anna's books.)
L'ho sentito fra/tra le risa. (I heard it amid laughter.)
Ci vediamo fra/tra un mese. (I haven't seen her since then.)
Non infilare la mano fra/tra le sbarre. (Don't slip your hands through the bars.)
