Definite article ''het''

The definite article "het" is used in the following cases:

Words ending in: -isme, -ment, -aat, -um

het toerisme (tourism)
het monument (monument)
het resultaat (result)
het museum (museum)

Nouns with two syllables beginning with ge-, be- and ver- but not ending in -ing

het geheim (the secret)
het begin (the beginning)
het verlies (the loss)

Infinitives used as nouns

het slapen (sleeping)
het eten (eating)
het lopen (walking)
