Grammar Lesson 4:

Expressing agreement

If you want to agree with somebody you can't say:

我同意你。(wo3 tong2 yi4 ni3)
(literally "I agree with you")

我 (wo3) = I
同意 (tong2 yi4) = to agree
你 (ni3) = you

Instead you would literally say "I agree with your view":

我同意你的看法。
我同意你的看法。
wo3 tong2 yi4 ni3 de5 kan4 fa3.

你的 (ni3 de5) = your
看法 (kan4 fa3) = view, opinion

So 同意 never follows with a person, instead you agree with a person's viewpoint.
