Suwanna and Phithak meet the first time and talk about their jobs.
พิทักษ์: คุณรู้จักประสิทธิ์ได้อย่างไร
Phithak: How do you know Prasit?
สุวรรณา: ฉันทำงานที่บริษัทเดียวกับเขาค่ะ
Suwanna: I work at the same company.
พิทักษ์: อ้อ ครับ แล้วคุณทำหน้าที่อะไรครับ?
Phithak: I see. What exactly do you do there?
สุวรรณา: ฉันเป็นเลขาค่ะ แล้วคุณล่ะคะ ทำงานอะไร?
Suwanna: Basically I work there as a secretary. And what is your job?
พิทักษ์: ผมเคยทำงานเป็นเจ้าหน้าที่ช่วยชีวิตในออสเตรเลีย แต่ตอนนี้ทำงานในผับที่ลอนดอนนี่แหละ
Phithak: I've worked as a lifeguard in Australia. But now I'm working in a pub here in London.
สุวรรณา: ทำไมเลิกทำงานเจ๋ง ๆ แบบนั้นเสียล่ะคะ? ได้พักผ่อนสบาย ๆ บนชายหาดทั้งวัน
Suwanna: Why did you give up such a cool job? Just chilling out on the beach all day.
พิทักษ์: ไม่ได้สบายแบบนั้นหรอกครับ! ต้องรับผิดชอบอะไรเยอะแยะเลย
Phithak: It's not really relaxing! You have a lot of responsibility.
สุวรรณา: เหรอคะ?
Suwanna: Really?
พิทักษ์: บางครั้งก็เครียดมากเลยนะครับ คนที่กำลังจมน้ำไม่ได้ทำท่าเหมือนในหนังฮอลลีวู้ดหรอก
Phithak: At times it can be quite stressful. A drowning person doesn't act as in Hollywood movies.
สุวรรณา: อย่างนี้นี่เอง
Suwanna: I see.
พิทักษ์: ปกติแล้วคนที่กำลังจมน้ำจะไม่มีกำลังเหลือพอที่จะตะโกนขอความช่วยเหลือหรือโบกมือแล้วล่ะครับ เลยต้องตื่นตัวตลอดเวลา
Phithak: Normally a drowning person doesn't have the energy anymore to call for help or wave. So you always need to be alert.
สุวรรณา: เข้าใจแล้วค่ะ ถ้างั้นคุณก็คงชอบทำงานในผับมากกว่า?
Suwanna: I see. So you prefer working in a pub?
พิทักษ์: ก็เครียดได้เหมือนกันครับ ผมแค่อยากลองทำอะไรที่แตกต่างไปดูสักพัก
Phithak: It can be stressful too, but I wanted to do something different for a while.
สุวรรณา: คุณทำงานที่ผับไหนคะ?
Suwanna: In which pub are you working?
พิทักษ์: ใจกลางลอนดอนใกล้ Leicester Square ครับ
Phithak: It's a pub in central London near Leicester Square.
พิทักษ์จดที่อยู่ของผับให้ สุวรรณาสัญญาว่าจะแวะไปหา
Phithak writes down the address of the pub and Suwanna promises to drop by.
