The funeral


Anna: 안녕 William, 어제 어디에 있었어?

Anna: Hi William, where were you yesterday?
William: 나 어제 우리 삼촌 장례식에 가느라 학교에 못 왔어.

William: I couldn't come to school because I was at my uncle's funeral.
Anna: 아, 그렇구나. 어떻게 견디고 있니?

Anna: Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. How are you coping?
William: 난 잘 견디고 있는 거 같아. 삼촌이랑 그다지 가깝지 않았거든.

William: I'm doing okay I guess. I wasn't very close to him.
Anna: 정말? 안됐다.

Anna: Really? That's a pity.
William: 응, 그런데 삼촌은 우리집에 찾아온 적이 거의 없어, 가까이 살았으면서도 말이야.

William: Yes, but he hardly visited us, even though he lived close by.
Anna: 왜?

Anna: Oh why not?
William: 잘 모르겠어. 삼촌이 돌아가시고 나서 아빠가 삼촌이 자기를 별로 좋아하지 않은 게 아닌가 하시더라고. 나도 삼촌이 자기 친구들하고만 바빴던 거 같아. 왜냐하면 장례식에 사람들이 정말 많았거든.

William: Not sure. After he died my father expressed doubt that his late brother liked him much. I also think he was busy with his own friends, because there were a lot of people at the funeral!
Anna: 아, 그게 설명이 된다!

Anna: Well, that explains a lot!
