The Great Fire of London

Beth: 안녕 Martin. 학교 어땠어?

Beth: Hi Martin. How was school?

Martin: 좋았어요. 역사 수업이 재밌었어요.

Martin: It was great. The history lesson was very interesting.

Beth: 그래? 뭐 배웠는데?

Beth: Really? What did you learn?

Martin: "런던 대화재" 에 대해서 배웠어요. 1666년에 그 화재가 런던의 5분의 4를 다 태워버렸어요.

Martin: We learned about the "Great Fire of London". It destroyed four fifths of London in 1666.

Beth: 무섭네!

Beth: That's horrible!

Martin: 그런데 그 화재로 죽은 사람보다 산 사람이 더 많아요.

Martin: It actually saved more people's lives than it killed.

Beth: 어떻게?

Beth: How is that possible?

Martin: 그 화재가 전염병을 돌게 한 쥐들을 많이 죽였대요. 그래서 그 이후에 전염병 환자가 급격히 줄었대요.

Martin: The fire killed a lot of rats which helped to transmit the plague. Plague victims dropped rapidly after the fire.

Beth: 흥미로운데. 학교에서 많이 배우는구나!

Beth: That's interesting. You learn a lot in school!

Martin: 네!

Martin: Yes, I do!
