英明：　やあ、省吾！　調子はどう？

Hideaki: Hi Shogo! How are things?

省吾：　それが、あんまり良くないんだ。先月、息子が糖尿病だと診断されたんだよ。

Shogo: Oh, not so good. Last month, my son was diagnosed with diabetes.

英明：　それはお気の毒に。息子さんはいくつ？

Hideaki: Sorry to hear that. How old is he?

---

省吾：　12歳だよ。

Shogo: He is 12.

---

英明：　僕の従兄も糖尿病なんだけど、40を超えてるし、太りすぎなんだ。

Hideaki: My cousin has diabetes. But he is over 40 and overweight.

省吾：　うちの息子は1型糖尿病なんだ。きみの従兄はたぶん2型なんじゃないかな。

Shogo: My son has type 1 diabetes. Your cousin probably has type 2 diabetes.

---

英明：　そうか。違いはなんなんだい？

Hideaki: Right. And what is the difference?

---

省吾：　ええっと、1型糖尿病は運動不足は関係ないんだ。自己免疫疾患なんだよ。

Shogo: Well, type 1 diabetes has nothing to do with lack of exercise. It is an autoimmune disease.

---

英明：　ということは、要するに運が悪かったっていうこと？

Hideaki: So basically just bad luck?

---

省吾：　そうだね。今のところは、息子の体調が良くなることに専念してるんだ。

Shogo: Yes. Right now I'm focusing on helping my son get better.

---

英明：　息子さん、良くなるといいね。それじゃ！

Hideaki: I wish you luck. See you!

---

省吾：　じゃあね！
