The new class
ある日、教授は自分の担当する新しいクラスに挨拶をしていました。
One day a professor was greeting his new class.
彼はクラス全員の前に立ち、このクラスに大ばか者はいるか、もしいるなら立ちなさい、と言いました。
He stood up in front of the class and asked if anyone in the class was an idiot, and if they were, they should stand.
少し間を置いてから、若い男子学生が立ち上がりました。
After a minute a young male student stood up.
すると、教授はその学生に、本当に自分は大ばか者だと思うのかと尋ねました。
The professor then asked the kid if he actually thought he was an idiot.
学生は答えました：「いいえ、先生がそこに一人で立っているのを気の毒に思っただけです」
The student replied: "No, I just felt sorry to see you standing there all by yourself"
