Grammar Lesson 82:

The negative adverb

Non is a negative adverb which translates as not (even if it is often absorbed by the English negative pronouns or adjectives nobody, anybody, anything, etc.)

Non can precede directly:

- A verb —> Non mangiare. (Don’t steal.) /  Non devi arrabbiarti se ripeto sempre le stesse cose. (You don’t have to get angry for I always repeat the same things.)

- An adjective —> Un ragazzo non bello. (A kid not handsome.)

- An adverb —> Non troppo tardi. (Not too late.) / Non presto. (Not soon.)
