Italian demonstrative adjectives: codesto

The demonstrative adjective used to express proximity to the listener is codesto (in all its forms).
 
There exists also a variant - cotesto (in all its forms) - but it is rarely used.
 
Note that nowadays codesto has been generally replaced by questo or quello. You will probably come across it only in formal written communication (bureaucratic or business letters), or in old literary texts.

Examples:
 
Dove hai preso codesto libro? / Where did you take that book?
Ti pentirai di codeste parole / You will regret these words
Il sottoscritto fa richiesta a codesto dipartimento … / The undersigned requests this department …
