Grammar Lesson 23:

I mesi dell'anno: months of the year

In Italian the months of the year are never capitalised unless they are placed at the beginning of a sentence.

They are:

Gennaio (January)

Febbraio (February)

Marzo (March)

Aprile (April)

Maggio (May)

Giugno (June)

Luglio (July)

Agosto (August)

Settembre (September)

Ottobre (October)

Novembre (November)

Dicembre (December)

—> NOTE that all months are masculine singular nouns: all the words referring to them in the sentence (article / adjective / pronoun) are therefore in the masculine singular form.

È stato un novembre molto freddo / It's been a very cold November

Other examples:

- Arrivederci a settembre! / See you in September

- Sabato 25 gennaio mi sono sposato / On Saturday, January 25th, I got married

- Il sole di luglio è molto caldo / July's sun is very hot

- "Quando l'hai visto per l'ultima volta?" "A giugno" / "When did you see him last?" "In June"

- Siamo già a dicembre e non ho ancora idea di cosa farò per Natale / It's already December and I have no idea of what I'm going to do for Christmas

- Anna compie gli anni in settembre / Anna's birthday is in September

When?
a gennaio / in gennaio (rare)	in January

How often?
ogni domenica di febbraio	every Sunday in February

From When to When?
Da marzo a giugno	from March to June

Since When?
Da settembre A partire da settembre	Since September
