The randomness of life
(Jack fährt zum Altersheim seines Vaters.)
(Jack drives to his dad's nursing home.)
Jack: Hallo Papi! Wie geht es dir?
Jack: Hi Dad! How are you?
Jacks Vater: Nicht so gut. Egal was du in der Zukunft tust, werde nicht alt!
Jack's father: Not so good. Whatever you do in the future, don't get old!
Jack: Haha, ich werde daran denken! Lass uns gehen.
Jack: Haha, I'll keep that in mind! Anyway let's go.
(Jack und sein Vater steigen ins Auto und fahren los.)
(Jack and his father get in the car and start driving.)
Jack: Es sind jetzt 20 Jahre vergangen seit Mutti ...
Jack: It's been twenty years since Mom ...
Jacks Vater: Ich weiß, kaum zu glauben.
Jack's father: I know, I can't believe it.
Jack: Bevor sie an diesem Tag ins Auto gestiegen ist, habe ich sie aufgehalten, um ihr zu sagen, wie lieb ich sie habe.
Jack: On that day before she got in the car I stopped her to tell her how much I love her.
Jacks Vater: Wirklich? Das hast du mir nie erzählt.
Jack's father: Really? You never told me this.
Jack: Mir geht es immer wieder durch den Kopf, wenn ich das nicht getan hätte, dann wäre sie etwas früher gegangen und vielleicht ...
Jack: I keep thinking if I hadn't done that, she would have left a bit earlier and maybe ...
Jacks Vater: Es macht keinen Sinn sich darüber Gedanken zu machen. Ich bin froh du hast deiner Mutter gesagt, dass du sie lieb hast.
Jack's father: There's no point dwelling on that. I'm glad you told your mother you love her.
Jack: Ich finde das so krass. Wie zufällig das Leben ist und wie kleine Details dein Leben komplett ändern können.
Jack: This sometimes blows my mind. How random life is and how small details can completely change your life.
(Sie fahren schweigend bis sie ankommen. Jack parkt das Auto und sie steigen aus.)
(They drive in silence until they arrive. Jack parks the car and they get out.)
Jack: Oh, die Sonne scheint! Wie schön!
Jack: Oh, sunshine! How nice!
Jacks Vater: Ja, es ist schön!
Jack's father: Yes, it's nice!
Jack: Ich habe ein paar Blumen für Mutti gekauft.
Jack: I bought some flowers for Mom.
Jacks Vater: Gut, aber die Rehe werden sie fressen.
Jack's father: Good, but the deer will eat them.
(Sie gehen eine Zeit lang.)
(They walk for a while.)
Jack: Da sind wir.
Jack: Here we are.
(Sie halten eine Weile inne. Schliesslich legt Jack die Blumen auf das Grab seiner Mutter.)
(They stand in silence for a while. Finally Jack put the flowers on his mother's grave.)
(Jack fährt zum Altersheim seines Vaters.)
