The funeral
Anna: Hi William, wo warst du gestern?
Anna: Hi William, where were you yesterday?
William: Ich konnte nicht in die Schule kommen, weil ich auf der Beerdigung meines Onkels war.
William: I couldn't come to school because I was at my uncle's funeral.
Anna: Oh, tut mir leid das zu hören. Wie verkraftest du das?
Anna: Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. How are you coping?
William: Ich glaube ich kann damit umgehen. Ich war ihm nicht sehr nahe.
William: I'm doing okay I guess. I wasn't very close to him.
Anna: Wirklich? Das ist sehr schade.
Anna: Really? That's a pity.
William: Ja, aber er hat uns kaum besucht, obwohl er sehr nahe gewohnt hat.
William: Yes, but he hardly visited us, even though he lived close by.
Anna: Oh warum nicht?
Anna: Oh why not?
William: Da bin ich mir nicht sicher. Nachdem er gestorben ist, sagte mein Vater er hat Zweifel, dass sein verstorbener Bruder ihn sehr gemocht hat. Ich glaube auch er hat viel Zeit mit seinen eigenen Freunden verbracht, weil auf seiner Beerdigung waren viele Leute!
William: Not sure. After he died my father expressed doubt that his late brother liked him much. I also think he was busy with his own friends, because there were a lot of people at the funeral!
Anna: Tja, das erklärt so einiges.
Anna: Well, that explains a lot!
