Definite vs Indefinite Article (Unbestimmter vs Bestimmter Artikel)

The definite article (bestimmter Artikel) in English is "the", while in German it is der/die/das depending on the case and gender as can be seen here:

	Masculine	Feminine	Neuter	Plural
Nominative	der	die	das	die
Genitive	des	der	des	der
Dative	dem	der	dem	den
Accusative	den	die	das	die

The indefinite article (unbestimmter Artikel) in English is "a" or "an", while in German it is ein/eine/eines/einem depending on the case and gender as can be seen here:

	Masculine	Feminine	Neuter	Plural
Nominative	ein	eine	ein	-
Genitive	eines	einer	eines	-
Dative	einem	einer	einem	-
Accusative	einen	eine	ein	-

As opposed to the definite article, there is no plural for the indefinite article.

Examples (Masculine Nominative):

der Apfel -> ein Apfel (the apple -> an apple)
der Mann -> ein Mann (the man -> a man)
der Baum -> ein Baum (the tree -> a tree)

Examples (Feminine Nominative):

die Frau -> eine Frau (the woman -> a woman)
die Firma -> eine Firma (the firm -> a firm)
die Familie -> eine Familie (the family -> a family)

Examples (Neuter Nominative):

das Haus -> ein Haus (the house -> a house)
das Auto -> ein Auto (the car -> a car)
das Buch -> ein Buch (the book -> a book)
