A good deed
Un boy-scout avait une demi-heure de retard pour une réunion.
A boy scout was half an hour late for a meeting.
Son ami lui demanda : "Pourquoi es-tu si en retard ?"
His friend asked: "Why are you so late?"
"J'aidais un vieil homme à traverser la rue.", répondit-il.
"I was helping an old man cross the street.", he answered.
"C'est gentil", dit son ami. "Mais une demi-heure de retard pour ça ?"
"That's a nice thing to do," said his friend. "But half an hour late because of that?"
"Eh bien, le problème, c'est qu'il ne voulait pas traverser.", répondit-il.
"Well, the problem was he didn't want to go," he answered.
