The Lifeguard

Ian has organized a party for his 30th birthday and invited all his friends.

Sally and Eddie meet the first time and talk about their jobs.
Eddie: "Waar ken je Ian van?"

Eddie: How do you know Ian?
Sally: "Ik werk bij hetzelfde bedrijf."

Sally: I work at the same company.
Eddie: "Ik begrijp het. Wat doe je daar precies?"

Eddie: I see. What exactly do you do there?
Sally: "Ik werk daar voornamelijk als secretaresse. En wat voor werk doe jij?"

Sally: Basically I work there as a secretary. And what is your job?

Eddie: I've worked as a lifeguard in Australia. But now I'm working in a pub here in London.

Sally: Why did you give up such a cool job? Just chilling out on the beach all day.
Eddie: "Het is echt niet relaxen! Je hebt heel veel verantwoordelijkheid."

Eddie: It's not really relaxing! You have a lot of responsibility.
Sally: "Echt waar?"

Sally: Really?

Eddie: At times it can be quite stressful. A drowning person doesn't act as in Hollywood movies.
Sally: "Ik begrijp het."

Sally: I see.

Eddie: Normally a drowning person doesn't have the energy anymore to call for help or wave. So you always need to be alert.
Sally: "Ik begrijp het. Dus je werkt liever in een pub?"

Sally: I see. So you prefer working in a pub?

Eddie: It can be stressful too, but I wanted to do something different for a while.
Sally: "In welke pub werk je?"

Sally: In which pub are you working?

Eddie: It's a pub in central London near Leicester Square.

Eddie writes down the address of the pub and Sally promises to drop by.
