A visit to the doctor's
"Hallo, meneer Jansen. Wat kan ik voor u doen?"
"Hello, Mr. Jansen. What brings you here today?"
Hallo, dokter Smit. Toen ik vanmorgen wakker werd, was ik helemaal bezweet en mijn hele lichaam trilde. Ik was misselijk, had een kloppende hoofdpijn en een beetje koorts. Ik denk dat ik de griep heb."
"Hello, Doctor Smit. When I woke up this morning, I was covered in sweat and my whole body was shaking. I felt nauseous, I had a pounding headache and I had a bit of a fever. I think I have the flu."
"Ik begrijp het. Dat klinkt inderdaad als griep. Kunt u uw schoenen en hemd uitdoen en op de onderzoekstafel gaan liggen, zodat ik u kan onderzoeken?"
"I see. That does sound like the flu. Could you please take off your shoes and shirt, and lie on the examining table, so that I can examine you?"
"Natuurlijk.
"Of course."
"Ja, uw keel ziet er een beetje ontstoken uit. En u heeft een beetje verhoging. Kunt u inademen en uitademen, alstublieft? Goed. U kunt zich nu weer aankleden."
"Yes, your throat looks a little inflamed. And you do have a bit of a temperature. Breathe in and out for me, please. Good. You can get dressed now."
"Wat heb ik, dokter?"
"So what's wrong with me, Doctor?"
"U had gelijk, meneer Jansen. U heeft een lichte griep. Ik zal u een antiviraal geneesmiddel voorschrijven dat u drie keer per dag gedurende vijf dagen moet innemen. Ik wil ook dat u drie dagen thuis blijft en voldoende rust neemt. Heeft u een doktersverklaring nodig?"
"You were right, Mr. Jones. You have a mild case of the common flu. I'm going to prescribe you an antiviral medication, which you must take three times a day for five days. I also want you to stay at home for three days and get plenty of rest. Will you need a medical certificate?"
"Ja, die heb ik nodig."
"Yes, I will."
"Alstublieft. Als u zich over drie dagen niet beter voelt, moet u terugkomen."
"There you go. Come back to see me if you don't feel any better in three days."
"Bedankt, dokter. Tot ziens." "Tot ziens, meneer Jansen."
"Thank you, Doctor. Goodbye." "Goodbye, Mr. Jansen."
