The new scam

David: "Zo grappig wat me net gebeurde."

David: So funny what just happened to me.

Dan: "Wat gebeurde er?"

Dan: What happened?

David: "Nou, ik ging naar Gumtree.com om te zoeken naar een flat. Er was een echt goedkope op een mooie plek beschikbaar. Dus heb ik een e-mail naar die man gestuurd om te vragen of de flat nog steeds vrij was."

David: Well, I went to Gumtree.com to look for a flat. There was a really cheap flat in a very central location available. So I emailed the guy and asked if the flat is still available.

Dan: "Ik wed dat het om oplichting ging."

Dan: I bet it was a scam.

---

David: "Inderdaad. Hij vertelde dat hij in het buitenland woont en een vliegticket moet kopen om me de flat te laten zien. Hij zei dat eerdere mogelijke huurders hem veel tijd hadden gekost en dat hij daarom, voordat hij me de flat laat zien, een aanbetaling wil.

David: Yes exactly. He told me that he lives abroad and needs to buy a plane ticket to show me the flat. He said he had wasted time with previous potential tenants and therefore needs a deposit up front before showing me the flat.

Dan: "Juist ja! En hij wilde die aanbetaling via 'Western Union' nietwaar?"

Dan: Yeah right! And he wanted that deposit through "Western Union" right?

David: "Ja! En als je via 'Western Union' betaalt, kun je op geen enkele manier je geld terugkrijgen."

David: Yep! There's no way to get the money back if you pay through "Western Union".

---

Dan: "Ik vraag me af of mensen echt in deze oplichting trappen."

Dan: I wonder if people really fall for this scam.
