Grammar Lesson 1:

Masculine nouns

There are three genders in the Russian language: masculine, feminine, and neuter (neutral).

If there is a consonant or "й" at the end of the noun, it is masculine.

Examples of masculine nouns:

футбол (football) (ends with л = l)
подъезд (entrance) (ends with д = d)
талант (talent) (ends with т = t)
грек (Greek) (ends with к = k)
праздник (holiday) (ends with к = k)
музей (museum) (ends with й)

Please be aware there are some exceptions to this rule.
