How do you suggest words to add?  by kdgosmoomoo   15. Mar 2008   Chinese

There are some words that I try to add to my lists, but the system says it's not 'in the dictionary' yet. Ie. 食

Where do I suggest/submit new words?

Etymology of characters  by wupeiyu   10. Dec 2007   Chinese

First I'd like to say I really like your website. I like the fact that you send me a sentence to learn (nearly) every day. Also, I like that you show both, pinyin and bopomofo. I'm a big fan of bopomofo, but I appreciate that I'll have to learn pinyin (for computer input etc). The 'Related Words' feature is also very helpful, as it allows me to maximise my reading and writing skills with characters that I've already learned - and ignoring those words for the time being where I don't know the characters yet.

But what would also really help to remember the characters is if you could give their etymology, how they have evolved or what the different parts of the characters mean.

Multiple choice  by Kink   7. Jan 2008   Chinese

I really like this new feature, good to have some variation.

I think it would be helpful if there was a button that allowed you to put the word immediately back in your box if you think you dont know this word well.

Hello.  by Renchu   24. May 2007   Chinese

This site seems really great. I've been feeling pressure to learn simplified characters instead of traditional because of available dictionaries and texts. I'm so easily swayed by the arguements on each side. After seeing this site though, I'm reminded of how aesthetically pleasing the traditional characters are and vow to stick with them regardless of those who claim them to be irrelevant. My aim to read a really old copy of 'Three Kingdoms' shall be realised!

Help Me Out Here...  by soccerfinatic142   29. Nov 2007   Chinese

I have been been looking through the flash cards quite frequently. I have been looking through them frequent enough to tell the computer that I want to see certain words 60 minutes later and so on. But sometimes I find that I accidentally hit 30 days or more or something crazy like that. I have hit the back button to go back to that flash card so I could correct my mistake but it doesn't let me go back to that card to fix my mistake. Now I have to wait another month before I see a few words again. Can you do something to help me out? Just make something that can reset our preferences. Like have something next to each word when we click "Your Words" so that you can select when you want to see it next, so we can fix any mistakes. Do you know what I mean? Just put the selection for the next time you want to see the word in more than one place so that I can correct my mistake of hitting 30 days or more. It would be much appreciated. Thank you so much.

Shortcut keys!  by alecsalter   5. Dec 2007   Chinese

Any chance you can have a shortcut keys feature on the site. For example: Press F1 for 5 minutes, F2 for 60 minutes etc...

It would save alot of time messing around with the mouse!

Looking for eBook writer  by oliver   6. Nov 2007   Chinese

At the moment we at Chinese-Course.com are planning to write an eBook about Taiwanese / Chinese
culture. If you want to contribute a chapter let us know about what you
want to write. Topics for example could be the best tourist destinations,
relevant information for foreigners living in Taiwan, how to get a job there,
a small Chinese grammar section, etc..

I'm looking especially for people who live in Taiwan already and have
first hand experience. The reward for contributing could be a limited or
lifetime full membership, a link inside the eBook, or I could also pay you
for contributing. I haven't decide yet if I give the eBook away for free
or if I charge for it, however everybody who contributes to the eBook will
get it free.

Anyway I hope you guys are excited about the idea as much as we are.
People who are interested please contact me at

Hallo,
This is only my second day of using the site and i'm finding it very helpful. Especially as I can practice my german during lunchhour at my desk and its look as though i'm still working ! This certainly beats just reading and working from books where i tend to become bored and give up. This is much more fun.

Ability to Make Lists  by Zedi   7. Nov 2007   Chinese

I would really like to be able to make my own lists of words on the site. I have learned several languages, and I've always found it much easier to expand my vocabulary by learning groups of related words at the same time,e.g lists of common verbs, colours, words to do with time, useful words for travellers, foods & eating at restaurants, etc.

It would probably be a lot of extra work for you, I'm sorry, but I think many others would share my views. Is there any chance you could add this function to the site?

Great Site  by alecsalter   5. Sept 2007   Chinese

As said before, this is a really useful tool and I'm almost tempted to pay out for the premium service. However, I have been using an intermediate Chinese book to study and I decided to enter some new vocabulary into this site to practice.Almost 50% of the vocab is missing on the site. How fast will the database be increased?

Thanks for the help

sentences  by hiyip38   31. Aug 2007   Chinese

Is there a way to increase the variation and level of difficulty of sentences included in our practice sentences by gauging the level a person's language skill is at (i.e. by looking at a person's vocabulary list plus the difficulty of sentences in their practice sentences list)? There does not seem to be a feature to automatically eliminate sentences that are not selected to be included in our practice sentences, rather, these old sentences continue to be recycled in future drills. There are no new sentences appearing with the add new sentences function for me anymore...have I topped out or is there just a set list of sentences?

Fantastic Site  by alecsalter   22. Aug 2007   Chinese

Helpful improvements  by hiyip38   23. Aug 2007   Chinese

If there is a way to delete words/sentences from our vocabulary and sentence lists, they can be shortened once they are learned. Using Flash to show words from our word lists on huge flash cards with animations on stroke order for both traditional and simplified forms would also be a nice addition.

Messure words in Spanish is called...  by Aprendechinohoy   6. Jun 2007   Chinese

We use to call it: "clasificadores". In fact It has no relation with the word "mesure", it just classifies. It is more unusual, but is also called "cuantificadores" (counters), more similar to the english words "mesure words". In my opinion both words are not accurate, but well, traslate from
Chinese to Spanish, and also English,is just impossible. :-)
