Can I  by gracias   25. Sept 2017

What is the difference between "me podrias dar una bolsa" and "Puedo tener una bolsa." both seem to be translated as can I have a bag. The first rendition seems to be translated more accurately as " are you able to give me a bag?
Your thoughts appreciated.

Podrías is more polite

I realize the post is old, but to me as a native Spanish speaker. Me podrias dar una bolsa = Can you give me a bag? And...Puedo tener una bolsa = Can I have a bag?

I know little Spanish but, as in Italian, Podria translate as Could you give me..., whereas Puedo tener is Can I have

Could you give me a bag? or Would you be able to give me a bag?

Could you let me have a bag please?/Can I have a bag please?

As spaniard, i don t find natural the second option. It s a literal translatión of english or french, but sound weird in spanish.
First sentence is slightly formal, if you want to be less polite and avoid conditional you can say " ¿me das (me da) una bolsa? " o " dame (deme) una bolsa "

Me, as a native Spanish speaker
Me podrias dar una bolsa = Can you give me a bag? And...Puedo tener una bolsa = Can I have a bag
Both are correct .
